Schools from across Sutton Coldfield and Sandwell have been taking part in specially organised football competitions celebrating Broadleaf Partnership Trust.
Town Junior, New Oscott and Court Farm were joined by invited guests Coppice and Moor Hall for the inaugral Sutton edition of the Broadleaf Primary Cup, with Coppice narrowly edging out hosts Town in a penalty shoot out.
Perryfields hosted neighbouring primaries Lightwoods and Causeway Green for a match refereed by Headteacher Mr Morris, in an afternoon that also included a sports coaching session for the young pupils led by Perryfields students.
Organiser and Communications Lead for BPT, Mikey Burrows, says both events were celebrations of the Trust and sporting success:
“It was fantastic to see our primaries coming together and having such competitive matches, with superb support from Plantsbrook’s Sports Leaders who administered the Sutton event. The Sandwell edition was more about Perryfields reaching out to the local community and with the exciting new build getting underway, Perrys is going to be delivering even more for those living nearby for many years to come.”

Both events focused on boys football this year, but now that the concept is proven, Mikey is hopeful there will be further events to come in the next academic year:
“Our schools provide a wide range of extra curricular activities, and there has been incredible success for netball, hockey and rounders teams this year across the Trust. Our aim is to bring our schools together more often, to strengthen the bonds between us, but also to give a platform for sporting success. Already this year we have seen New Oscott play sporting fixtures at Town, with Court Farm also using the Town field for their Sports Day, whilst Town Junior made use of the netball facilities at Plantsbrook.
As a Trust, it’s important we support those connections, which is why we were delighted to secure the use of Sutton Town Football Club for the culmination of the Sutton Schools Cup, allowing New Oscott the chance for further glory after winning Division One of the Sutton District League this year.”
